Human at Work Program

A cohort-based learning experience for people who make people decisions.

An immersive, cohort-based learning experience offered in-person for people whose work involves making decisions about others. Designed for people working in human resources and people management, including program coordinators, office managers, managers and directors, the program requires a minimum of 10 participants per cohort

The program explores how our choices influence the people we work with, the structures and cultures we create, and the organizational mandates we're responsible for carrying out.

Drawing on Jodi's first book, Dare to Be Human at Work, the program explores three interconnected systems through the metaphor of the universe: Starburst (Way of Being), Constellation (Way of Doing) and Galaxy (Way of Interacting). From understanding ourselves, to navigating our relationships with others, to examining the larger organizational systems we're part of, participants explore how our choices and actions influence the world of work.

Three Interconnected Areas

Through reflection, conversation and practical activities, each cohort explores three interconnected areas, drawing on the systems-thinking approach in Dare to Be Human.
Beginning with ourselves, we expand our understanding to the relationships we form and the larger organizational systems we're part of. Each area builds on the last, helping us explore how our needs, values and experiences shape our choices, how our actions influence others, and how people, policies, structures and culture interact to shape our experiences at work.

Exploring the needs, values, identities, emotions and experiences that shape who we are. We examine how our perspectives, assumptions, mindsets and habitual patterns influence the choices we make, how we communicate and how we show up at work. We also consider how our personal capacity and well-being influence our interactions with others. Through reflection and self-exploration, we develop greater awareness of our own patterns and learn to recognize how they shape our decisions, behaviours and impact on others.

Starburst - Way of Being

The individual as a system

Constellation - Way of Doing

The individual in relationship with others

Exploring how we communicate, navigate conflict, build trust, foster belonging and exercise influence. We examine how our intentions translate into actions, how we navigate differences and competing needs, and how power and accountability shape our relationships. We also consider the impact we have on one another, including when that impact differs from what we intended. Through dialogue and practical application, we strengthen our ability to approach difficult conversations, exercise sound judgment and respond to others with greater intention, care and accountability.

Galaxy - Way of Interacting

The organization as a system

Exploring how people, policies, structures, technology and culture interact. We examine how these interconnected elements shape our experiences at work, influence organizational change and affect how decisions are made. We also consider how our individual and collective actions can reinforce, challenge or change the systems we're part of. By examining real workplace situations, we learn to identify connections between organizational practices and human experiences, evaluate their impact and consider opportunities to influence meaningful change.

What You Will Gain

The Human at Work Program offers an opportunity to strengthen how you approach people decisions, navigate complex workplace situations and understand your influence within the systems you're part of.

Greater Self-Awareness & Confidence Develop a deeper understanding of what shapes your decisions and greater confidence in navigating situations where there isn't always a clear answer.

Stronger Communication & Judgment Build your capacity to navigate difficult conversations, balance competing needs and approach people decisions with clarity, care and accountability.

A Broader Systems Perspective Recognize how individual choices, relationships and organizational systems influence one another, and consider where you can make a meaningful difference.

How the Program Works

Resources & Learning Materials

Participants receive curated resources and practical tools that support learning across the three interconnected areas. These may include selected readings from Dare to Be Human, research, articles, reflection questions, worksheets and other materials that encourage further exploration and application.

Interactive Learning Sessions

Facilitated sessions bring concepts to life through conversation, practical activities and real-world scenarios. Rather than relying solely on presentations, the sessions invite participants to question ideas, explore different perspectives and practise applying what they're learning.

Reflection & Practice Between Sessions

Between sessions, participants will be invited to complete guided inquiries, reflective activities and practical exercises that connect their learning to everyday life and work.

These activities create opportunities to put ideas into practice, observe our own patterns and behaviours, and consider how our choices influence others. Participants bring their reflections and experiences back to the cohort, allowing each session to build on what they've discovered and practised in between.

Application to Real Work

Participants are encouraged to bring their own workplace experiences and challenges into the learning. The program creates opportunities to examine real decisions, conversations and organizational situations, connecting concepts to the responsibilities participants carry in their everyday work.

Learning Environment

A central part of the experience is accessing the collective wisdom in the room. Participants bring different professional backgrounds, lived experiences and expertise, creating opportunities to learn from one another as well as from the program content and facilitation.

The learning environment encourages curiosity, reflection and meaningful dialogue without pressure to perform, overshare or have all the answers. Cohorts will be offered in-person or virtually, with a minimum of 10 participants.

Program Fees & Accessibility

I want the Human at Work Program to be accessible to people with different financial circumstances while also giving back to the communities we're part of. Each cohort will offer three sliding-scale contribution levels. Participants choose the level that reflects their financial capacity, without having to explain or justify their choice.

  • Supported — A reduced fee to make the program accessible when cost would otherwise be a barrier.

  • Sustaining — The standard program fee, helping sustain this work.

  • Contributing — A higher contribution that helps make the program accessible to others.

Giving Back

A portion of every program fee will support BC nonprofits serving marginalized communities, including women, people with disabilities and those experiencing mental health challenges. Program fees, charitable contributions and registration details will be shared when each cohort opens.

The Human at Work Program is designed to offer an immersive learning experience without overwhelming busy people. Each cohort combines facilitated learning, meaningful conversations, independent reflection and practical activities, creating opportunities to explore ideas, question assumptions and apply learning to real workplace situations.
